The Rose Tree Media School District's Health Services are developed and organized in accordance with the school laws and regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The primary purpose of School Health Services is to provide health care and services so that each student can achieve his/her maximum level of wellness.  Optimal health is essential so that each student can fully utilize the educational opportunities available.

The school nurse is an integral part of the educational team and is dedicated to aiding students to develop to their full potential.  The professional school nurse provides the educational team with expertise in matters of health, health education, and nursing care to the school community.

Health Screenings
Pennsylvania School Health Code mandates annual health screenings for all students in schools within the Commonwealth.  Each year Rose Tree Media nurses administer screening tests for vision and growth (including height, weight, and body mass index percentile) to all students in the district. Hearing screening is administered to all students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 11, and scoliosis screening is administered to 7th graders. Parents/guardians receive a referral for further evaluation by their medical provider if their child does not pass the vision, hearing or scoliosis screening, or if he or she has a body mass index percentile above the 85th percentile or below the 5th percentile.
Mandated Examinations

Medical examinations are required on original entry into school, in grade 6 and in grade 11.  Dental examinations are required on original entry into school and in grades 3 and 7.
