Nurses are available in each school to provide care to students who become ill or are injured at school. Parents will be contacted if the student needs to be picked up or if further medical care is necessary.
The school nurse cannot assume the responsibility for injuries that did not occur at school. By law, school nurses are not permitted to diagnose illnesses or injuries. Parents are asked to refrain from sending their child to the nurse for diagnosis and treatment of these injuries.
If your child has an injury or illness that will restrict them from participating in Physical Education class or other school activities, a note is required from a licensed health care provider. The note must include the diagnosis, the extent of limitation of activity and the time period of limitation. It is recommended that the note include an end date of the restriction. If there is no end date, another note from a licensed health care provider is necessary.
